WHEN: SATURDAY, JUNE 19th, 2021 at 1 pm WHERE: Brooklyn Bridge Park @ Jane's Carousel, Dock St & Water St WHAT: March over the Brooklyn Bridge to Manhattan, pausing in front of the African Burial Ground, then ending at City Hall Park Celebrating Juneteenth. Continuing the fight for BLACK EMANCIPATION. We will be gathering at Brooklyn Bridge Park at 1pm, stepping off at 1:30pm to walk across the bridge. In Manhattan, we’ll stop by the African Burial Ground for a moment of silence, then proceed to City Hall where we’ll have an opportunity to share some closing words of reflection and love.
Since last year’s march, many of us have been vaccinated—which is great—but not everyone, so this is a masked and social distancing march. Taking these measures shows our love for each other. We are also committed to nonviolence and sharing a peace/love vibe, but since we can’t control everything, we will have trained marshals on hand who cut their teeth in groups like the Lesbian Avengers and ACT-UP. As always, random acts of kindness are encouraged! Perhaps bring an extra bottle of water for someone else! Or a spare mask. Along with chants we will have a speaker and a love song play list. Let us show, by our shear numbers, how committed we are to JUSTICE, SOLIDARITY, and LOVE. See you there! Actions like this incur costs, such as printing of the banner, getting armbands for the marshals and renting wheelchairs to make the event accessible. Our goal is to raise $5,00 for this action in order to cover all costs -- whatever is left will be donated to Black artists and organizations doing restorative justice work. If you want to suggest Black artists or orgs that do work in this space, you can email us at BreakTheChainsWithLove2020@gmail.com!
